Dr. A. Venkateshwari

Prof. A. Venkateshwari, is heading the Cytogenetics department of the Institute. She obtained M.Sc. (1992) and Ph.D. (1998) from Department of Genetics, Osmania University. Her research interests include Human Genetics and Cytogenetics. ICMR awarded International Fellowship to Dr. Venkateshwari in the year 2015, as Post-Doctoral Fellow and worked on anticancer role of plant products in Cancer Cell lines at Mitchell Cancer Institute, University of South Alabama, USA. She is instrumental in introducing Postgraduate Diploma Program In Genetic Counseling Under Skill Development Program in the year 2018 with financial Support From Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, New Delhi and DBT Supported M.Sc program in Molecular and Human Genetics in the year 2020 at the Institute. Dr Venkateshwari has successfully completed 4 DBT and 3 UGC supported research projects and published more than 120 papers in various peer reviewed national and international journals of repute and 4 book chapters. Till now 7 PhD’s are awarded, two of them submitted thesis and 3 research scholars are working under her supervision. She has organized more than 10 Seminars/Conferences/workshops and conducted several awareness and health camps at School, College and Community level for general health and screening programs across Telangana with financial support from Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Telangana Academy of Sciences and RUSA, OU. She is a Life Member of Indian Society of Human Genetics (ISHG), Indian Society of Gastroenterology (ISG), Organization of Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), Indian Science Congress (ISC) and she is presently working as the Secretary of the OWSD-India Chapter.
